Northern Ireland Energy Holdings appoints new Chairman (designate) and Non-Executive Directors

Northern Ireland Energy Holdings (NIEH), operators of the Moyle Electricity interconnector, the Scotland-Northern Ireland gas transmission pipeline (SNIP) and Belfast Gas Transmission Pipelines, has appointed Peter Warry as Chairman-designate.  Two Non-Executive Directors, Gerry Walsh and Regina Finn, both well-known figures in the Irish energy sector, have also been appointed.

The company endorsed the appointment of its new Chairman-designate at its recent AGM with the position taking effect from 1 September.  Mr Warry brings a wealth of experience in industry, government and regulatory spheres and is an advocate of the mutualised business model that NIEH operates (where operating surpluses are returned to energy consumers rather than to private shareholders).

Gerry Walsh is the former Chief Executive of Bord Gáis Eireann, the state-owned Irish gas company with a turnover of €1 billion and assets of €2.5 billion.  He will bring a first-hand experience of the Irish gas market and public affairs in the Irish Republic to the NIEH board.  Mr Walsh’s appointment has taken effect from 1 October.

Also joining the Board, from 1 November, is Regina Finn, former Commissioner at the Commission for Energy Regulation in Dublin and current Chief Executive of Ofwat, the economic regulator for the water and sewerage industry in England and Wales.  Ms Finn has over fourteen years experience in economic regulation of monopoly and emerging competitive markets and has particular expertise within the utilities sector.

Speaking about the appointments Northern Ireland Energy Holdings Executive Director Bill Cargo commented “Our open and transparent recruitment process has delivered outstanding Non-Executive Directors, who are fully committed to developing our mutual business model for the long term benefits of all energy consumers in Northern Ireland.”
